It's kind of a lost art. I do think they learn to look for patterns and similarities when doing puzzles, and if they're working with someone else, they learn cooperation too. There's also the idea of perseverance. Yep, lots to learn from doing them.Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18053983168084838303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5999407569923340675.post-14089805883213499642015-07-14T14:51:30.645-04:002015-07-14T14:51:30.645-04:00Hi there! Whether it's puzzles, math problems or a text, I find students often give up so easily because they have no idea how to even START problem solving! I'm going to dig out the puzzles I have and put them to use! ~ LisaElementary Storieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03088181803272362291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5999407569923340675.post-67293993846624423952015-07-10T00:54:43.406-04:002015-07-10T00:54:43.406-04:00I went to 3 workshops this week about critical thi...I went to 3 workshops this week about critical thinking. It is obviously something important if there were that many options available! I am not a very good "puzzle doer", but I enjoy sitting with my kiddos and teaching them strategies to work on puzzles (usually explaining the corners and straight edges). Great post!

Amanda
A Very Curious ClassAmandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06821626827458343376noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5999407569923340675.post-29596552010231685102015-07-08T14:41:55.220-04:002015-07-08T14:41:55.220-04:00Wonderful! It was too discouraging--they could not figure out straight edges and the shapes and colors, oh my! And I had so many needs that I did not sit and help. What if my parent volunteer helped do puzzles... Great idea, I cannot wait to get this going!!!
AlyceMrs. Bartel's School Family (Alyce)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02808464364703782147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5999407569923340675.post-12444790976655381272015-07-08T13:35:18.769-04:002015-07-08T13:35:18.769-04:00I have even had puzzles at my centers before becau...I have even had puzzles at my centers before because I just think they need that critical thinking and this is not something that they get in their homes (many of my students, at least). I hope you guys can include some puzzles too!Em Hutchisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02714399463592010921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5999407569923340675.post-82290481309591382322015-07-08T07:46:55.466-04:002015-07-08T07:46:55.466-04:00Thanks for sharing!
