Book Lover: A Gift Guide

It's true.  I am an early shopper.  Actually, it is not unusual for me to begin shopping for the holiday season as early as January.  And that's not all.  I have kind of become known as the girl that gives books.  My own children don't even ask what we are going to buy for cousins' or friends' birthdays.  They just know...books.
The books do not stand alone, though.  I like to engage the reader with a book pairing gift!

Book Pairing Ideas...

I am in complete LOVE with the Otis books, so the fact that a new one came out this year....I was beyond excited!! My first graders can always be caught reading in our library with a "reading buddy."  So what better gift pairing than a book with a matching stuffed animal.  There are so many great ones out there!  This is just one of my favorites.

My daughter is all about crafts, glitter glue, and fabric.  I found this book, My First Sewing Machine Book, and a simple sewing machine that I felt might help to feed this interest.

My niece enjoys writing and has become a pen-pal with my mom this year.  Love, Mouserella is a great book to encourage writing. Along with some pretty paper and some new pens, this pairing would be a cute gift for her!

Another great series for the six year old, nonfiction lover in my life!  These books focus on animal feet, teeth, hair, and ears.  Animal slippers provide a great pairing to the book What If You Had Animal Feet!  Sidenote: What If You Had An Animal Nose comes out December 27th!

The gift that keeps on giving...I am a huge Epic fan because it has thousands of books and is very high interest to all ages.  So it naturally seems like a great gift to give.  One thought I had was to give a book of interest, like Scaredy Squirrel.  The rest of the series can be found on Epic...the gift that keeps giving!

Peter H. Reynolds is one of my favorite authors and I am excited to share these books with my nephew this holiday.  But the perfect companion to these books is a sketch book and Kwik Stix!  We love these paint sticks in our home because they are easy to use, dry in 90 seconds, and now there are more colors!!  Neon and Metalix!  Target and Target.com are now carrying them!

Happy Reading!  -Em

  1. You remind me of myself. I start shopping for the upcoming year as soon as Christmas is over. Books are my weakness and a great idea for kids for special occasions, especially pairing it with something so find. Thanks for the great ideas!!

  3. This is a new idea for me, but I love it! For my mom and dad at Christmas--perhaps a book and a restaurant gift card that is related? I'll find a book, and then think about what restaurant would go well? It's a start...

    Always great ideas here!

    Love,

  4. The Dot is a book I discovered thanks to a fellow teacher last school year that I enjoy telling others about. I agree with the sketch pad and kwik sticks 100%. It is perfect for those who struggle to create anything. I have a few students like that in my class. I'm also using free draw time as a reward for a student on a behavior plan.
