Hitting the Restart Button

Nov 2, 2014

Transitions have been occurring at my school lately. And it has been a little stressful.  Nope. A lot stressful.  I have not had the motivation at school that I typically have.  I have not had the motivation to blog.  And that makes me sad.

All the transitions ended and at the same time my family trip to Disney started.  My husband had the opportunity to go to a conference at the Disney resort.  I have two girls:  four and five (almost six) years old.  We decided we should use my personal days and go.

I struggle with this.  I feel like a bad teacher leaving.  Teaching...I LOVE it!  I put everything I can into it.  But...life goes fast.  Childhood goes even faster.  I don't want to miss these important opportunities with my own children.

And, honestly, I really needed it.  I needed to step back and refocus.  So  I read a book (a whole book).  Swam. Watched tv in bed.  Colored.  Hung out with princesses.

Tomorrow brings a new week. I have a focus.  I have the motivation.  I'm ready.

  1. I'm having a rough year, too. Disneyland makes everything better, so don't feel bad.

  2. Hi Em.
Thank you for posting. I just wanted you to know that I truly value your entries and appreciate your creativity and generosity.
I LOVE that you took time off to be with your family. Haven't we always heard it's important to take care of ourselves, so we can do a better job of taking care of others? I also understand your guilt. I've taught first grade for 20 years and this was the first time I took the day off to spend some time with my daughter who was visiting from college. Talk about guilt.....and then, I just let it go. Guess what, my students were just fine without me and my daughter and I had a wonderful day together.
I hope all the unease passes soon at your school. Please know that there are many of us out here that sooo appreciate all you do.
    Your family looks wonderful!

  3. Yes, I read this nodding my head in agreement!
My year has been no like no other...I was reading old blogposts, remembering how much FUN I've had in previous years. I can't wait until that returns :) Last week, I also took a day off and spent a long weekend in Florida. I didn't even bring work with me - it was my time to hit "restart" too. Hang in there and blog often - there's so much support with fellow teacher-bloggers. Have a wonderful week! Jen :)

  4. That's how I felt last year. It was tough. I'm glad you could get away and find some time for you. :)

  5. Oh, I completely understand! I am so sorry you are having a stressful year. It's so easy to get overwhelmed, and I think it's wonderful that you took advantage of the opportunity to get away and refocus. Good for you! I hope you have a lovely week this week. :)
